Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn has urged his players not to pass up the chance to write themselves into Wearside folklore on Saturday.

Memories will come flooding back for the Irishman when derby rivals Newcastle head for the Stadium of Light this weekend.

Quinn went down in Sunderland legend when he scored at St James' Park in November 2000 to secure a second successive victory in enemy territory, and knows the current crop of Black Cats have a chance to do the same.

He told The Journal: "Without putting pressure on the team, this is what it's all about.

"This is the game the Sunderland people want, this means more to them than any other on the calendar, and the fact that we are back here and in with a shout is great. The game will show the players how good it gets.

Beauty and the Geek

Today from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the DoubleTree Guest Suites on 15th Street, the CW's "Beauty and the Geek" will hold an open casting call. They are looking for, you guessed it, beauties and geeks. So geeks, here are a few reasons why you should audition:

1. You missed the filming of

VH-1's "The Pick-Up Artist" in Austin, so some guy named Kosmo won instead of you.

2. No one watches the CW - yet! If you are selected as one of the geeks on this season of "Beauty and the Geek," at least your friends and family will tune into the network home of "Farmer Wants a Wife" and "Aliens in America."

3. Thanks to the writers' strike, reality television will rule the airwaves in the spring. With no "Grey's Anatomy" or "The Office" competing with shows like "Beauty and the Geek," tabloids would be forced to crown you the next McDreamy or Jim Halpert (probably Jim Halpert).

Exhibits, art shows and and traveling advice before you hit the road.

Remote travel has never been easier. Blindfold on, Heidi Schrab and I booked an infrequently traveled destination on a fairly isolated island in Central America that sounded promising. Getting to Bocas del Toro, Panama (an archipelago of some 68 tropical islands), required three flights, an overnight stay in Panama City and a boat ride. But when we arrived at Tranquilo Bay, we found an unbelievable paradise (www.tranquilobay.com).

So this is what happens when four Texans set their minds to creating the perfect backdrop for a multisport adventure vacation. Two couples started building the modest but fabulous eco-tourism resort seven years ago and have truly brought charm and exceptional modern details to the island. The natural beauty ranks up there with every hot tourist spot on the other side of the globe featured in travel magazines ...

A coldblooded artistry inhabits Coens' `Country'

The Coen brothers have never really accepted the idea that a movie has to have a plot.

Offbeat characters, sure. Oblique dialogue that sounds meaningful and occasionally is so, absolutely. Eye-catching cinematography and a subtle, mood-reinforcing soundtrack, no question. Irony layered on thickly as cheese in good lasagna, yes. But a narrative that makes sense from end to end? Well, one doesn't have room for everything.

That's why they've made one great movie, the utterly silly "Raising Arizona," and a string of good ones that fall just short of greatness. "No Country for Old Men" doesn't break that string.

Folks enamored of Cormac McCarthy's grim, philosophic novel will find that much of the tone and some of the story have been preserved in the film.
